In the early 1900s, where what now lies the City of Vincent, there were wetlands where market gardens were predominantly done by Chinese gardeners in small-scale, intensive and communal agricultural labour practices. They were later forced out by an influx of southern Europeans for land development. This studio acknowledges the potential for the past to shape and inspire future design. Using the historical context, I was asked to develop my site for the years 2049, 2079, and 2109 where we switched sites with our peers in each proceeding year and developed off one another. Tying in the past Chinese market gardens I designed modular green pavillions for 2049, a floating light installation for 2079 (inspired by dreams, lanterns, and floating water) and self-sustainable aquaponic planter boxes for 2109 that hold fresh produce and fish.
