In collaboration with The University of Nottingham (China), University of Western Australia and Tu Delft. The ‘Fanboo’ project centres around privacy, and obscurity. Deconstructing its physical and metaphysical uses, paired with other precedents and cultural actions such as sitting with an umbrella, a simple form came about. The materiality of Bamboo also played a large role in determining the design to create a portable product. Giving semi-privacy but not disconnection, the ‘Fanboo’ showcases strong form and cultural sensitivities that can be felt when sitting amongst it.
Explore The Making Process
Some of the biggest challenges but most enjoyable aspects of this project was the making process. The language barrier between us students and the bamboo master was overcome with the joint help of the local students and communication through actions.
